A Tale of Two Springs

Spring can bring surprises as it moves in fits and starts toward summer.

I had planned a post about spring in Glasgow when life brought its own set of surprises and I now find myself sitting in Greece.

So why not share some pictures of spring in both places?

First, Glasgow:

The lawn of the Botanic Garden on a sunny day

When the weather is nice in Glasgow, Glaswegians make a mass exodus to its parks and green spaces since you don’t know when the next sunny day will come.

The rhododendron were brilliant this year.

I also made a trip to a lovely big park for a peek at baby Highland cows. How can you resist?

Momma with baby trotting towards her.
Meal time.

A stroll in a neighborhood alley where former stables are charming cottages.

And even the dogs were in the act of relishing a nice weather day.

Little sun beds.
And one of the cuties got up from a nap to say hello.

I came to Greece a week ago as D.’s mother has had surgery. She’s thankfully improving little by little and D.’s extended family have been wonderfully supportive.

Although my daily routine here has been some variation of hospital-work-home, I’ve still savored the beauty of small moments along the way.

First, the neoclassical main hospital building itself is lovely – the Hippocrates Hospital of Athens – with a frieze of images above the windows showing various modalities of healing.
In the courtyard of the hospital, is a little shaded garden.
And across the street, a little chapel.
The bougainvillea add a bit of beauty to a busy Athens.
Here’s a first for me – a cat on a motorcycle!

Back in D.’s hometown of Pireaus, more cats on antiquities.

Can you spot all three?

Lazing in the sun.
A morning snooze on a tarp before opening time at a street cafe.

And the marina, with calming views of the sea.

And a fisherman mending nets.

Here’s to experiencing beauty wherever you may find yourself. Wishing you health, happiness, and peace.

    1. Thanks Kathy, I have just been thinking of you. When things get a bit more stable, I’d love to catch up. Hope you’re doing well.

  2. I knew I’d find something beautiful when I opened your post. Not disappointed. You remind me to look for what is lovely wherever I am.
